Bouldering Berlin – A Great Selection of Gyms

There are numerous indoor places that provide opportunities for bouldering in Berlin. This makes sense, owing to the fact the landscape is utterly baron and flat. This means the nearest decent outside boulders are a good few hours drive away. This provides a perfect concoction for many gyms to flourish.

A view of Berlin

The following page will list all of the bouldering gyms in Berlin. You will see there is a wide variety of styles and locations. Overall there are nine indoor bouldering halls. There are also additional climbing gyms for sport climbers, but we have not listed them here.

We would recommend trying all the gyms out for yourself, but we have aimed to provide a quick overview of each one. Naturally, personal preference trumps all else, but we have also tried to give a fair assessment.

Verdict – Our Favourite

It is our favourite gym for a number of reasons. Firstly there is a wide variety of routes, with over 1,800 m² of wall space. What’s more, the training area is second to none. They have Tension- and Moonboards, campus boards and fingerboards. Other fitness equipment such as rowing machines, bikes, pull bars, and free weights all enhance the experience.

The routes are regularly reset, with one section of wall replaced every week. The overhang section is perfect and the slab wall is always tricky. The staff are always friendly and there is also enough space to drink a beer or a coffee after your climb. Overall, we love coming at this place, and the location next to Anhalter Bahnhof is perfect! Note: it is only open to those aged 14 or over. Another plus point for those just wanting to climb.

If you have one gym to go to in Berlin, go to this one.

Verdict – The Biggest with Most Routes

This bouldering gym is one of the staples of Berlin. Open in 2012, it expanded in April 2019 to now have four halls! The dedicated hall for overhangs is a thing of beauty. The changing facilities let this place down, but that’s not what you are there for. It also has a very nice training area with a really nice Tension Board.

Overall, it is a really great bouldering place for all Berliners. Nevertheless, it is often very crowded and if you live in the south it is quite a distance to get to Pankow.

Verdict – Great Facilities

Located in Neukölln, it is a very popular indoor climbing gym. With over 2,300 m² of wall space, an outside wall, a kids area, and a sport climbing section, it really does have something for everyone. It is often jam-packed during the weeknights, but what place isn’t these days? The training area is also excellent.

What’s more bouldering in Berlin doesn’t come with as much luxury as it does here. What are we talking about? Well, their beloved sauna of course. It is truly one of the best ways to relax after a tough session and really does set this gym apart from the others in terms of facilities available.

Verdict – The Hipster’s Paradise

Located in the heart of Kreuzberg, this is a boulder hall all the cool kids want to go to. Even so, with 1,300 m² of walls, there are many different routes for you to try. It must be said, from all the gyms we have been to, this has got the most difficult grading for sure. So if you are looking for a confidence booster, go elsewhere!

It is one of the best-located bouldering gyms in Berlin and as a result, is supremely popular.

Verdict – Old Style Bouldering in Berlin Gym

This gym is definitely not for those used to bouldering in luxury. It is one of those places for the pure and hardened climber. The walls may look dirty, but the route setting is sublime. It is one of the least known names in of boulder halls in berlin, but it is certainly worth a visit to try it out for yourself.

Verdict – One for the Summer

A great bouldering gym located near Südkreuz has some very nice routes and walls. It is definitely best enjoyed in the summer months, where their outside area really does become its forte, with massive wall space and a seating area, you can enjoy your ‘Feierabend’ with friends.
It also has a small training area and a kids section too.

Verdict – King of the West

If you live in Spandau, this is where you will go to boulder. With over 1000m² of wall space, and new route setting every week, there is plenty to keep you occupied. The location on the Havel is very beautiful. There is also a pretty good training area and a nice cafe. It would be more famous if it was better located.

Verdict – A Berlin Favourite

Located on the famous RAW-Gelände in Friedrichshain, this place definitely exudes a hipster vibe. Nevertheless, the climbing is great and it also a top summer spot, with half its walls located outside. There is also a great 18m bunker for sport climbing.

It has a small training room and the changing rooms are pretty dingy. The atmosphere is generally relaxed and the route setting is very good. It has a good mix for both beginners and advanced climbers.

Ostbloc

Verdict – A Weekend Spot

Located on the Spree far out in the east, this is one of those spots for the weekend. It has some very nice climbing, and it is divided into 12 sections, two parts are reset every week. The location is not convenient to get to on public transport, so ride a bike or drive. It has a small training area, and also small changing facilities.

Südbloc

Address:
Großbeerenstraße 2–10, Haus 4
12107 Berlin-Mariendorf

Opening Times:
Mo – Fr : 10:00 – 23:00 (Th from 07:00)
Sa – Su : 09:00 – 23:00

Website: www.südbloc.de

Verdict – One of the Best

Located far in the south – the last stop on the U6 Alt-Mariendorf – some of you will probably never go there and you’d be missing out. It is a great hall and would be our favourite for bouldering in Berlin if it wasn’t so far away. Divided into three halls and a massive outside area it has something for everyone. The one area it falls down is its small training area, nevertheless, it more than makes up for it elsewhere.
