What is a Clif Bar?

Clif Bars are energy bars that use organic ingredients. They were created as performance nutrition for when you are hiking, climbing, bouldering, or any other sport. Gary Erickson and Lisa Thomas invented the bars, and the name of their business was decided as Clif Bar & Company. Since 1992 they have grown exponentially and are now a worldwide brand.

Without further ado, I now bring you our list of the top Clif Bar flavours. This is my personal preference, and let’s be honest, all of their bars taste pretty good. Depending on your tastes and even things like allergies, this could affect which one you choose. I could honestly recommend all of the flavours found in this list.

1. White Chocolate Macadamia Nut

The best Clif Bar favour by far. White chocolate sweetness, rolled oats, the fantastic macadamia nuts, and a hearty 9g of protein make this the all-round bar.

There is a lot going on when you bite into one of these. The crunchiness is provided by the macadamia nuts, but it is balanced out by the sweetness. For some, it can be too sweet. But if you are looking for something to give you a ‘pick me up’, then this is the perfect bar.

2. Crunchy Peanut Butter

Perfect for those needing a long-lasting energy boost. Oats and crunchy peanuts give this a texturable feel when you take a bite. Additionally, with 11g of protein, it certainly packs a punch.

Peanut butter is loved the world over and this caters perfectly for those fans. It has a powerful peanut taste that we all love and crave. Even so, it is not as crunchy as the name makes it out to be. Nevertheless, this does not deter from the fact that it is one of the most loved flavours that Clif Bar produce.

3. Chocolate Brownie

A timeless classic. Rolled chocolate oats combined with chocolate chips means it tastes exactly how it is described. Like a chocolate brownie that you made at home. The 9 grams of protein is not as much as some other bars, but it still gives you that sustained energy boost that is required.

You have to be a fan of chocolate to like this, as it is packed with a wholesome chocolaty flavour. I love to eat these whilst bouldering, as it gives you the kick you need if you are feeling a bit low on energy. Packed with the essential carbs and vitamins you need, you’ll be sending in no time with these.

4. Blueberry Crisp

A fantastic tasting bar. Made up of dried blueberries, almonds, and oats it is certainly packed with flavour. It marks a distinct change from other bars listed here, and the sweetness brings out the taste of blueberries excellently.

Even so, it isn’t too sweet. It also has 9 grams of protein and non-GMO products. Overall, it is a great choice to turn to if you are not a peanut or chocolate fan.

5. Chocolate Chip

Simple, but effective. You can’t go far wrong with simple flavours, and this Clif Bar delivers the basics in a top way. It may not be as flashy as some of the other ones out there, but if you are into simple flavours this is the one for you.

Made with organic products, and with 9 grams of protein, you can be sure it delivers the nutrition you are craving. Overall, it will not blow your taste buds away, but if you are a fan of chocolate chip cookies, then this is the bar for you.

6. Oatmeal Raisin Walnut

A staple of the Clif Bar flavours range, the oatmeal raisin walnut delivers that homely feeling when you dig in. Made with organic raisins and cinnamon, coupled with crunchy walnuts. It is also packed with a whopping 10 grams of protein.

The problem many people face is the texture of the bar. It is rather dry, and sometimes you may need a drink to wash it down. This is not the best when it comes to energy bars and it is not for everyone.

7. Coconut Chocolate Chip

Nutritious and sweet, this Cliff Bar flavour is an acquired taste. It is made up of oats, unsweetened chocolate, and coconut. The sweet coconut flavour is very overpowering, so you have to like the taste in order to enjoy this bar.

With 10 grams of protein, it is built to sustain your energy levels. Although I didn’t like it enough to rank it higher, it is still a good flavour. Those who really like coconut flavour would definitely place it higher on the list.

8. Peanut Toffee Buzz

An extra boost. Another peanut flavour, but this Clif Bar comes with a twist. With green tea extract, the additional caffeine is designed to give you that little ‘buzz’ you need.

Just like the other peanut flavours, it is packed with the stuff. Crunchy peanut toffee, organic roasted peanuts, organic peanut butter, and oats make the bar what it is. Once more, you have to be a fan of peanuts to even come close to liking this one.

There are numerous Cliff Bar flavours to choose from. Depending on your personal preference, you will have a different list than mine. I tried and tested each bar – by eating them – and this is what I came up with. If you like to sound of one flavour, then give it a go. There are also variety packs which you can buy, so you can taste multiple different flavours.

Of all the bouldering gear reviews I have done, this was my favourite. After all, I got to eat loads of tasty energy bars. There is nothing better than having a Clif Bar before, or during your bouldering session and I really do recommend them.
